Our Goal: Finish What We STARTED!

In 2015 when we faced the daunting challenge and joy of building our first ever 5th grade class; you helped! We have made great strides but the two-room building has no doors or windows. We are not even talking about painting the exposed bricks and furniture. The 2016 school year started October 3rd, the rainy season has not let up yet and the students still need YOUR HELP to finish what we have started together.

How can you help?

With the Classroom of Dreams Benefit, our Special Guest, Cheikh N'Doye & Friends, promises to start the evening with a lively Smooth Jazz Jam style to warm us up. Cheikh is the hottest Bass guitar player hailing from Senegal right now. He plays with renowned artist like Baaba Maal and Arshak Sirunyan. You certainly do not want to miss the high-energy, global dance party experience that will ensue. Nothing resonates with abundance and gratitude better than a melodic journey to Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and back to the changing colors of the Virginia Fall season. No passport required--no boundaries. Introverts, Extroverts, Dancers and Talkers; there is a little bit of everything for everyone. We promise that before you go home, you will feel like GIVING!

What we've been up to

From the simple beginnings of a two-room school intended for fifty repeating ninth grade girls, Adja Penda Ba has grown significantly and now enrolls over 300 highly motivated students. Each year we added a classroom and expanded to accommodate tenth, through twelfth grades. With continued funding from Open International, APB launched an elementary school with one pre-K and one kindergarten class. First, second and third grades followed, and this current school year we had our very first fourth grade class. Next year we will have our very first fifth grade.

Message from our Founder:
"Our progress has been amazing and we are grateful for the support we have received from so many different people. We are proud of our students; they are smart, curious and ready to learn. Because of our dedicated staff and supportive parents, our elementary students are learning to read and write at a rate that surpasses most regional schools. None of this would be possible without your continued and generous support."
